His therapist advised medication but Stuart was afraid that the pills contained Yoga poses for weight loss and toning germs, so he refused to take them. Although eventually he was able to go to Yoga poses for weight loss and toning his therapist’s office, psychotherapy did not significantly relieve his problems. Next, his therapist encouraged him to take the SKY course, but the thought of being in a room full of people and germs triggered a panic attack.
Since Stuart was incapable of attending a regular yoga class, his therapist taught him Ujjayi breathing in the office. Doing the breathing every day reduced his anxiety. Finally, he was able to attend a SKY course by sitting in a remote corner away from other people’s germs. The daily SKY practice reduced his anxiety enough for him to expand his range of activities. Whenever he started to feel anxious, Ujjayi breathing for 5 to 10 minutes would restore his sense of calm.
