The consequences of a C/T or T/T Yoga poses for quick weight loss polymorphism are an increased level of homocysteine approximately 20% and lower folate concentrations. About 40 Yoga poses for quick weight loss -50% of the population has the C/T mutation, while 10-12% has the T/T mutation. The increase in homocysteine is associated with greater risks for cardiovascular disease. In addition, SAMe production may decline. The reduction in SAMe and folate along with the increase in homocysteine may contribute to depression and poor response to antidepressant medication.
One particular polymorphism with a 677C to T transition in the MTHFR gene results in an alanine to valine substitution in the polypeptide chain, which is associated with a thermolabile enzyme. The MTHFR 677TT genotype is common, occurring in 12% of the Caucasian and as high as 22% of the Latino or Mediterranean population. It has been suggested that supplementation with L-methyltetrahydrofolate would be more effective than folic acid because this would bypass the need for the final MTHFR conversion step.
