Mood swings are a common complaint during both perimenopause and menopause. They are uncomfortable and, some women report, uncontrollable.
One way to help alleviate insomnia, irritability, and depression associated with menopause is to practice soothing postures. Poses with forward bends, such as Uttanasana (see page 62) or JanuShirshasana (page 71), soothe the mind and calm the nervous system. These poses stretch the spine and place a gentle, reassuring pressure on the abdomen and uterus.
