IS FITNESS AS IMPORTANT TO YOUR AS DIET?

WE’RE TALKING TO

Sarah-Jane Crawford The vegan TV presenter and DJ, 34, tells us how she stays at the top ofher game.

1. IS FITNESS AS IMPORTANT TO YOU AS DIET?

‘I don’t see my vegan diet as a commitment. It’s just the way I eat now to maintain a consistent, healthy diet. I enjoy exercise, but the intensity and frequency of my workouts fluctuates depending on how much rest I need from travelling and the hours I’m filming. When I’m in London, I do lots of resistance training with a brilliant PT called McKenzie Sager, and for cardio I love Spin classes, heading to Psycle in London (psyclelondon.com) and Soul Cycle in LA (soul-cycle.com). But in the first 10 months of 2017, I travelled to eight different countries, moved home and filmed two TV series so, as you can imagine, it’s hard to keep a routine.’

2. HOW DO YOU COPE WITH YOUR JET-SET LIFESTYLE?

‘I’m blessed to have homes and work inexciting locations such as London and LA thatoffer so much opportunity – the only reason I’m about to secure a big show on a major platform [See question 5] is because of goingback and forth between them. But I do misshome when I’m in the US, and it’s hard to maintain relationships. Jet lag is a real energydrainer, so it’s essential I stay hydrated, moisturising with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream (£45 for 30ml; houseoffraser.co.uk) and drinking lots of water!’

3. WHAT’S YOUR BEAUTY PHILOSOPHY?

‘I love strong looks for evenings out, special occasions and being on-screen, but it’s important to be happy with your natural look, too. I love cruelty-free brand NYX (nyxcosmetics.com), as it helps me achieve a professional look without a make-up artist. I also love Epara (eparaskincare. com), the first luxury skincare brand aimed at women of colour. Lashes are also big for me: with the right set of individual lashes, I feel great off-camera without make-up.’

4. TELL US WHY YOU CREATED YOUR APP, VIAPPI

‘When I became vegan two years ago, one of my biggest challenges was finding where I could grab my nearest suitable meal. There were apps out therethat acted as a restaurant finder for vegans, but the food photography wasn’t appealing. I felt us vegans needed an up-to-date restaurant finder thatcelebrated food and showed it in its best light, so I launched one myself. My new app (@Viappi) and website (viappi.co.uk) also have a variety of meat and dairy-free recipes if you want to get creative at home.’

5. WHAT DREAMS DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE IN 2020?

‘I have so many exciting TV projects on the go, including hosting the World’s Strongest Man on Channel 5 in January. I’d love the nation to know and be excited about @Viappi, so they can find an amazing restaurant or make the perfect veggie meal at home. I’d also like to present a TV vegan cooking show. I’m doing a pilot with vegan chef Day Radley.’
